Once known by most London foodies as Lindsay House, Gauthier Soho opened in mid-2010 with the former chef of Michelin starred Pimlico restaurant Roussillon. A sleek white townhouse with glossy black marquee conceals a heavy black ebony doorway opens to two dining rooms of cozily arranged club chairs and white tabletop adorned with Limoge porcelain plates. Precious décor reverberates through slightly floral window fabrics and period fireplace with oversize mirrors that make the most of the less-than-ideal acoustics. Another room features a communal dining table for 16 guests meant for larger events or private parties. A reserved undertone is communicated through well-trained waiters and barmen that know how to make a real Sidecar at the intimate lounge with drinking bar.

The Food

Under the helm of chef Alex Gauthier a lunch and dinner menu tells the story of seasonal specialties and locally sourced ingredients. Gaulthier’s experience at Hotel de Paris under Alain Ducasse is tangible through compound dishes that pair unlikely vegetables and ingredients for edible perfection that’s unrivaled in this Soho neighborhood. Meals begin with cream of leek and potato goat cheese ravioli, saffron risotto with sautéed squid or roasted Scottish scallops with leek fondue. Main course mixes choices of soft baked Atlantic cod with heritage carrots, grilled pink pigeon with braised parsnips or Shetland Langoustines with celery ginger cream.
